Remember when you were a kid in school and your teacher showed you a picture of 3 things and asked “Which one is not like the other?”

fad (noun) – a temporary fashion, notion, manner of conduct, etc., especially one followed enthusiastically by a group
Make no mistake about kids, Social Media is no Pet Rock, Cabbage Patch Kid, Tickle Me Elmo or any other fad you can think of… not with these kinds of numbers it isn’t:
- 230 million - the number of pieces posted each and every day to social media websites
- +83% - the growth of time people in US spent on social networking sites from 2009 to 2010
- +145% - the growth of US Facebook users from 2009 to 2010
- +3712% - growth of US Twitter users from 2009 to 2010
- 25% – One in four US Internet page views occurred at one of the top social networking sites in December 2009, up 83% from 13.8% in December 2008
I could go on of course but you get the point… the numbers simply do not lie.
Social Media is here to stay and if you are a business owner, you better be “into it” because if you’re not interacting with your existing customers AND potential customers via Social Media, you can be sure someone else, AKA your competition… will.
