Google has been working towards creating the world’s next communication product, Wave.  Wave will be a free, open source, Google product combining two huge internet components; instant messaging and e-mail.  Even though Wave is not accessible to the public, there has been talk about the potential benefits of such a service as well as the possible problems.

Wave combines multiple outlets of information into one place, which appeals to the need Americans have for convenience and accessibility.  All internet communication resources will be located in one specific location.  Also, E-mail is beginning to be viewed in different ways due to growing technology and Wave appears to be that next step towards new inventive ways of communication.  It could replace universal tools and eliminate the problem of having to use multiple browsers for all internet communications.  A major benefit of Wave is that it is a Google product.  With the Google name attached, there is already a high level of quality associated with this new form of communication in addition to the trust that most people feel with Google.

Although Wave is a creative and resourceful idea, there is a potential for multiple problems.  Wave will need to gain the support of major factors of the internet world such as AOL, Facebook, Comcast, etc.  With the main concept being the combination of instant messaging and e-mail, AOL and other messaging providers will play crucial roles in whether Wave will be successful or not.  There is also the possibility that Wave may not be accessible through iPhones, which means that over 30 million people would not be able to accesses this server unless at a computer.

Whether or not Wave will be successful is yet to be determined.  However, if Google can overcome the potential problems and expand on the benefits that would come from creating Wave, it could possibly become one of the most used ways of communication in the future.
