Microsoft’s Mobile Woes…

By steveo + May 25th, 2010

On Monday of this week, the Wall Street Journal reported a corporate shake up was about to occur at Microsoft with the changes affecting divisions that focus on video games,  mobile phones and other consumer devices.

Today came word that the shake up had already begun as Microsoft replaced the chief of its division focused on mobile phones, video games and other consumer devices Robbie Bach, who will retire this fall.

The announcement  comes as the Microsoft Windows Phone is being passed by the … Continue Reading

Stream Companies Is In the House…

By steveo + May 19th, 2010

The White House that is!

Each year a group of Cabrini College seniors are charged with bringing attention to a social justice topic via a multimedia website. This year’s topic was Domestic Violence, specifically the effects it has on children. So the group of seniors aptly named their campaign “The Children as Witness Project.”

In February, 2010, Cabrini came to Stream Companies to help create a website that would both educate elementary school teachers about Domestic Violence, and to give teachers ways … Continue Reading

New Social Media Analytics Tool

By steveo + May 18th, 2010

In case you missed the news, last week IBM unveiled a new Social Media Analytics Tool. According to Mashable, where I first read about it, the tool “will use natural language processing (NLP) to analyze everything from product names and industry jargon to slang and emoticons.”

It’s called the SPSS Modeler Data Mining and Text Analytics Workbench. Here’s hoping someone comes up with a shorter name for it…

The tool is actually already being utilized by some well-known companies and organizations including Navy Federal Credit Union, Rosetta Stone … Continue Reading

Super Bowl Post Mortem

By steveo + February 8th, 2010

Last Wednesday, I dispatched the following queries re: the forthcoming Super Bowl spots…

  • Were any of the spots unveiled during the Big Game memorable?
  • Were any the kind we will be talking about for years to come, either in a positive or negative light?
  • Did you remember the spot or product or both?

I honestly don’t know where to start. Oh wait, yes I do…

Without question this was, in my severely-over-caffeinated opinion, the worst collective group of Super Bowl TV commercials I have ever seen.  Seriously, what in the name of Joe Willie Namath were a lot of these people thinking?

The cost to … Continue Reading

The Dos and Don’ts of Attack Ads

By j_brennan + June 24th, 2009

During tough times the gloves come off.  You start seeing more and more attack ads… ads in which one brand chooses to compare itself with a competitor in a way that could damage the integrity of either party.  The format is as old as advertising itself and can net you huge gains or huge lawyer fees.

Take these three current campaigns as examples of how results may vary:

The Key to Reaching Baby Boomers Online

By j_brennan + June 24th, 2009

It’s a long standing tenet of modern marketing:  where Baby Boomers go, advertisers follow.  At 76 million and counting, the Boomer demographic (those born in the post-war boom between 1946 and ’64) does after all compromise the majority of consumers in this country.  So why are less and less resources being used to target Boomers online?

A huge misconception is that as internet spending increases, reaching out to … Continue Reading
