Facebook Now the Internets Ultimate Time Waster
By admin + July 17th, 2009
Capturing a user’s attention is one thing, but keeping that user on your site is a whole other issue. Facebook seems to have mastered this by keeping their users occupied on their site for long periods of time. With 87 million visitors and an average of 4 hours and 39 minutes spent on the site, Facebook is quickly rising to the top of all web brands in the world.
Among the top 9 web brands, people on average are spending the most time on Facebook. Facebook is a much newer site compared to the well established web brands like Yahoo, AOL, Google, and Microsoft that are falling behind in terms of time spent on site. Comparing these sites based on a user’s time spent on the site has become more and more common. Marketers are now focusing more on time spent on site compared to a pageview, which used to be the most important factor.
With the focus on the amount of time spent on the site, Facebook clearly is the dominating web brand. Not only does this site keep its users occupied, but with its ability to turn content into ads it is also turning into one of the greatest marketing platforms in the world. Facebook is clearly a force to be reckoned with and it’s not likely that its growth will be slowing down anytime soon.
