Yahoo! Goes For Broke…

By steveo + May 7th, 2010

You have to forgive me but I’ve been mesmerized by the Erin Andrews/Elizabeth Hasselbeck feud and I haven’t been following the news lately…

Did I hear right? Yahoo! is spending $75 to $85 million on a new marketing/advertising campaign?

Didn’t they just plop down over $100 mill on a marketing/advertising campaign?

So that comes to what, about $185 million in less than 10 months? My, what big ad budgets you have…

Hopefully the new campaign will fare better than the first.

According to comScore, after the $100 million plus buy in … Continue Reading

By ssilveri + December 16th, 2009

A continuing auto industry trend is switching from traditional to online advertising. Because of this, online auto advertising agencies have adapted to a new system.

The system enables dealers’ inventory to be automatically listed across the Vast.com network which includes automotive sites such as AOL Autos, Overstock Cars, and AutoMedia. The true upside to this switch is the benefit of online networking.

Online local ad spending for American auto manufacturers is approximated to be 14% in 2010, while online ad spending will most likely increase by 8.6%.

So far, it has increased internet ad spending … Continue Reading

    By ssilveri + November 11th, 2009

    icon_phone1Demographics Evening Out

As mobile Internet usage increases, men are losing their advantage in numbers. They still account for the majority of users, but women are catching up quickly.

Mobile Internet visitors were up 34% year over year to 56.9 million in July 2009. Growth among women outpaced the average rate by some 9 percentage points. Men still made up 53% of the mobile Web audience in July.

What keeps men so attached to their mobile phones for Web browsing? They make up the bulk of the audience for tech, sports and news content-and, … Continue Reading

    Q&A: Understanding Social Commerce

    By g_press + October 29th, 2009

icon_groups1Q:  Why do people like to follow a brand on its Facebook fan page?

A:  That answer depends on the retailer you’re talking about and how they use the platform. This is an interesting challenge for retailers, too. Because of the kind of communications and messaging you’re talking about, social media demands a very intense, thoughtful plan and approach in terms of what we call brand.

And not all of them have been good at this.  A company like Best Buy kind of breaks the mold. Zappos certainly does. Target does. Some of … Continue Reading
