Social Media is a Top Priority for Search Marketers

By g_concannon + November 24th, 2010

Social to be featured at center of SEO and PPC campaigns

It’s not surprising that 2011 is projected to be the “year of Facebook.” What’s interesting however is that the “year of Facebook” may also be relevant for search marketers.

Search marketers have discovered how social media marketing can help build their search engine optimization efforts, and respondents to the Covario survey said their No. 1 priority for SEO next year was integration with social media programs.

According to the report, “leveraging … Continue Reading

Google has recently announced its newest element to their Places feature; and they’re calling it Hotpot.

Hotpot functions as a Places recommendation engine and is aimed at average customers. Hotpot is easy to use and includes social functions that are not present with the Google Places we’ve come to know so well.

With Hotpot, a user is able to see their friends rated and reviewed places along with the standard Google Place’s information.

Users will be encouraged to rate and review businesses directly from their Google-linked … Continue Reading

10 Ways for E-mail Marketers to Survive Facebook Messages

By g_concannon + November 16th, 2010

On Monday, Facebook announced new communication channels for its users which included new message systems and a @facebook.com.

Among the upgrades, users now have the ability to tailor communication channels for individuals in their network. An individual may chose a certain friend to receive emails while another receives IM’s depending on which platform they prefer. Once that information is inputted, the user simply chooses the name and types a message.

The biggest change, though, will likely be the @facebook.com – a project that Facebook has reportedly been … Continue Reading

Facebook is now offering deals from nearby merchants and brand marketers such as Starbucks, Gap or McDonald’s for users who share their locations in status updates.

Facebook launched “Deals” as an extension of its Places feature where users are able to check into locations such as restaurants, bars, or malls. The Deals service was launched with 22 big brand partners including Starbucks, McDonalds, H&M, and Gap as well as 20,000 smaller businesses.

NEW FACEBOOK FEATURES

By g_concannon + October 12th, 2010

A new feature called “Groups” was recently introduced that will allow users to form specialized networks within Facebook. The group feature is one of several changes that have been made to give Facebook users more control over the information they share including updates, messages and photos. It seems that Facebook’s future will be all about the user; by focusing on their control, privacy, and empowerment.

With Groups, a Facebook user can create a group and invite his friends to join, and then users can invite additional friends. The groups can be public, … Continue Reading

The roll out of Facebook Places has yet to come to Philly.  To see FB Places you must have an iPhone or mobile connection via laptop (time for an App Store Update).

Reported features of Facebook Places are limited but expect changes on a regular basis – not surprising for any Facebook user.

Will this be the death of foursquare and Gowalla?  Too soon to tell, but I’d expect a sale of each property to the likes of Yahoo! and Bing.

Do you want to learn more about convergence of geo-location and … Continue Reading

Why System Patches & Updates Are Important

By steveo + June 2nd, 2010

I don’t know about you, but when I was a kid and I ripped a hole in my blue jeans or dungarees, (those over 35 will get that reference) my mom would simply sew on or iron on a patch to cover the hole. And before you knew it, I was back playing with my friends…

Nowadays of course, in the computer-driven world in which we live in, the word “patch” takes on a whole new meaning. A patch is a piece of software designed to fix … Continue Reading

New Social Media Analytics Tool

By steveo + May 18th, 2010

In case you missed the news, last week IBM unveiled a new Social Media Analytics Tool. According to Mashable, where I first read about it, the tool “will use natural language processing (NLP) to analyze everything from product names and industry jargon to slang and emoticons.”

It’s called the SPSS Modeler Data Mining and Text Analytics Workbench. Here’s hoping someone comes up with a shorter name for it…

The tool is actually already being utilized by some well-known companies and organizations including Navy Federal Credit Union, Rosetta Stone … Continue Reading
